Comfort Food Sunday...

So yesterday, one of our favorite aunts had a bunch of people over for what we think is a genius idea.  Our Aunt Cathy decided to have people over for "Comfort Food Sunday."  Everyone was asked to bring their favorite "comfort food" to share, resulting is a savory fall potluck.  The table was covered with goodies:  a yummy ham, cheesy potato casserole, a corn casserole with gruyere cheese, homemade mac 'n' cheese, cornbread, fresh rolls, Snickers salad, sweet potato casserole...
Dessert was made up of amazing chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin pie, gingerbread cake...
We ate and then lazed around talking about how yummy everything was.  The weather was crisp but comfortable---just like a California fall day should be.

Isn't this a great idea?  It was such a nice afternoon----low stress, great company, laughter, wine, and (of course) some of the best comfort foods under the sun.  If you are looking for an idea for a fall party, consider the idea of "Comfort Food Sunday."

Here is the recipe for Sweet Potato casserole, by the way.  A very yummy treat----and while it makes a tasty fall side and would be welcome on any Thanksgiving menu, we think it would also be good for dessert with a dollop of vanilla bean icecream.  (Yes, it's really that sweet!)  We are also going to try to coerce some of the fabulous home cooks from yesterday's Comfort Food Sunday to share their recipes on this blog because everything was so good!  (Seriously, everything served yesterday would be amazing as a Thanksgiving side...)

Thanks, Aunt Cathy, for the great idea!
