Affordable Custom Furniture? Yes, Please!

Sometimes, you just stumble across genius. That is how I (Kari) felt the day that I ran across this beauty of a blog called "Knock -Off Wood." Ana White is officially Queen of the Hack in my opinion, and that's a high compliment. She has made it her mission to give out plans (for free!) to many of the fabulous pieces of furniture you might come across as you peruse catalogs or stores...the stuff you put on your wish-list but know, in the back of your mind, that it's just not in the budget. You really should read Ana's story right here. Ana's plans are easy to follow, easy on the budget, and provide great outcomes! Take a few minutes and peruse her site---you might find the plans to a piece you've been secretly coveting!

Here's a little taste of Knock-Off Wood's goods:

Like these children's chairs from Land of Nod?

Get the plans to build them here.

Love this very popular "Farmhouse table" from West Elm?

Get the instructions & plans on how to build it here.

Love the look of floating shelves but find them hideously overpriced in the stores?

Make 'em yourself. Directions right here.

One of my favorite projects was actually done by a blogger from Crafting Chicks. Isn't this little play kitchen divine?

Best of all, Ana White's plans are suitable for anyone---you do not have to be a skilled builder to follow along and end up with something great. So dust off those tools, find yourself a project, and be prepared to brag about how much money you saved! :)
